Bad Neuenahr Ahrweiler EDRA

Several visits to this very friendly airfield.  On one occasion we camped there and held our own barbecue with ingredients brought from England by the participants. There are hotels in the nearby town of which we have had good reports.

The landing fee was modest but we were charged an overnight parking/camping.

Visited 2008 (RG) and planning to go there for our visit to Germany in May 2012.

We have good email contact with the president of the local Aero Club.

We visited again in May 2013 when undertaking the Dambusters 70th Memorial Rally. This was fraught with weather difficulties which resulted in three of our party arriving at BNA a day early, when we had PPR for the next day. A fine of €5 per aircraft was imposed as the operator (well, his son) had to attend the airfield at short notice as it was deserted when we arrived. The welcome was a little brisk as we had forgotten to close our flight plans on arrival and this led to enquiries being made by the German flight planning people. The overall cost of landing, the fine and two nights outside parking was €22, which seemed a little harsh as the airfield offers little security and is not short of space. On the upside, the chap manning the adjacent cafe/restaurant could not have been more helpful. He organised hotel rooms and was very amenable. Visited May 2013 - HMcB.

In May 2018 we visited with the Dambusters 75th Rally and had a quite different experience from 2013.  We had made prior contact to arrange to land and get fuel and were told that it wouldn't matter if we arrived late when the airfield was unoccupied.  In the end with weather delays we missed the planned afternoon refuelling but the next day he was there early and we were all able to get fuel.  Don't believe we were charged a landing fee or overnight parking, just for the fuel.

Stayed at the Pension Helma which was very close to the centre of town, was cancellable on the day and very reasonable price.
