Chalon is a busy parachute dropping airfield which is active most days of the year, so NO OVERHEAD JOINS! On the days when the ATC is closed it appears one of the parachute instructors offers unofficial radio advice from the middle of the field using a hand held ICOM, but not all local aircraft (microlights) appear to obey it. The airfield appears to prefer a direct in approach to the runway in use.

On my visit the parachute club were very friendly and you could purchase food and drinks there. Be aware the toilets were the classical French “hole in the ground” type.
