Just over the border in Germany with a good N/S hard runway into which we were vectored straight-in. Very little going on here – a parachute Cessna Caravan squad the only other aircraft in evidence. The chap in the tower was helpful and the apron has both AvGas and UL Mogas at the pumps. A restaurant / café near the tower was firmly closed, but the tower chief said that it would be open tomorrow. They are an obvious entry point to Germany and our flight plans were closed without formality. Did not see the town but the whole area of the Saarland appears very industrial. A lot of hostile territory on departure – woods, slag heaps and habitation. Few good outlanding opportunities.
